not a pretty picture. not a good. not a bad. picture. but an argument.

self examination

  1. self-examination ... is there really anything else, i wonder sometimes?

an interesting perspective in the photo -- two sides of the self, looking in different directions, with emptiness between them ... a metaphor for consciousness, perhaps ...

  2. tom, yes.

    maik, yes.

    james, yes.

it occurs to me that i could say no, no, no and be equally as true. i ask myself what i have to do with this at all. everything and nothing. i ask myself what a poet or artist or creator has to do with any creation at all. everything and nothing. i laugh. this feels like a breakthrough moment for me. too bad i will forget it tomorrow.

i have to say (so that i remember) in terms of the photograph itself i am thrilled by the negative and positive space reflected here against each other, the dark hair in the foreground framing the white face, the white shoulder in the background framing the dark hair and i have to admit that there was a large picture on the wall in the background that i removed in photoshop. there had to be a void there, or if not a void, the shadowing of space itself.
