not a pretty picture. not a good. not a bad. picture. but an argument.

  1. reminds me of an album cover...gorgeous!

  2. thanks aimee and nadja.

aimee, that makes me laugh so hard. not sure what might or might not be on that album.

i was thinking about what comprises a person, how these bits become the whole, how we know ourselves and how we know one another, where that truth lies.

for me parts are more provocative in their way. the whole can sometimes seem superfluous and might even, at times, be boring, perhaps revealing even less than the parts.

  3. something between joni mitchell and hole - or both! powerful.

in all seriousness though it's why i love taking pictures of parts of people rather than the whole - it can say more and help you hone in on something you might never have noticed

  4. I prefer parts to the whole also. Every part can be completed in so many ways, endless possibilities, like those old writing exercises where everyone writes an utterly different story from the same opening line. Sometimes you catch a glimpse of someone's face and can't recall every detail, but the impression has been made and whatever shared future awaits begins to form. Each of these images in itself could be the opening line of its own slow beautiful story. Why would anyone want to know the ending right now, or ever?
