  3. such a strange place and i didn't even realize it until my son asked me to explain. an abandoned house, of course, that robert and i make our way through. this is an area boxed off as a closet, i think, but perhaps has been other things, as the wallpaper suggests. perhaps it could never decide what it was to be. but most shocking is that distant room off to the left, rooms as we all keep within, an evolving house, as we all are.

This has something of the feel of surrealist painting, as if we are going to turn back and find the familiar world gone, no option any more but to tremble with apprehension or joy at the prospect of exploring this room that opens to the side, drawing us to itself, through itself, to find....? I like the idea that this house and the strange scene within it has always been there, awaiting the right moment for your discovery, making perhaps little excited adjustments to tone or color as you approached nearer and nearer....
