i am a mother

poem for my children upon their birth

please forgive me for what i am about to do

i am about to live alongside you.

(i am in a place where i don't trust my words right now.  but i do trust this - i am a mother.)

  4. it's a beautiful picture, erin.

    your words hold a kind of irony, for they ask for forgiveness for performing the tasks of a mother; for providing the shelter of a mothers presence - the most important thing for a child. it makes me a little sad to think of the flip side of the coin: life lived without a mother to bug you with her love.
